commission piece: 14kt yellow gold with 2.5 mm black diamond

i must confess that typically i am not a fan of yellow gold or shiny metal and therefore never work with it....BuT my friend, katy was interested in a ring such as this and since she is one of my favorite people i thought i would give it a whirl!!! NOW, i must admit that after finishing this ring (AND for the first time giving yellow gold a chance) i am definitely inspired by it.  the burnished shiny yellow surface accented with the black diamond....it feels so fancy and timeless!! i am unexpectedly loving it....i will be excited to work with this material again if the occasion presents itself. thanks for the inspiration katy. i hope you love it :-)

umm, did i say i just liked something shiny?? yellow gold???...someone please check my temperature!!

off to finish one more fancy ring in the studio today! happy sunday!!

a few images i took wearing my work to show scale and how it looks on the body.....i have uploaded these to my etsy listings. i think it's important for customers who have not seen my work at shows to have a visual reference as to how it looks on. i have had this on my to-do list for quite some time and am happy that i have a jump start on it!

these tightly woven black seed beads resemble those gummi blackberry and raspberry candies, especially the upper left image.

1yellow.jpg2yellow.jpg3yellow1.jpg4yellow.jpg

these little lemon lime beads are my favorite of all the bead colors i bought to experiment with.  they appear to be bright yellow in the bag. i first stitched this pair with a bright red orange thread and the beads then appeared gold, they were okay but i didn't love them....so i then ripped out the thread and stitched them with an aqua color and the beads now appear to be a soft sort of electric yellow with a hint of green. love them!! the matte surface on the beads makes them feel like sprinkles on a cake.

more to come in the grow. paddle line.....

come see the new collection at the  handmade austin women show this weekend.

hawesome....

pink-goodness1.jpg

my friend melanie and i have been laughing about using the term hawesome for haw (handmade austin women)!!! haha!! melanie is one of the other main coordinators for the show....hawesome....cheesy, yes!! but we just can't help it.  with all the long hours of planning the event i think we have the right to coin "hawesome" in the midst of our deliriousness.  planning a show (even at this small scale) is an immeasarable amount of work and at times feels like a full time job. having said that, i love being part of this show in every facet.  i love everything about it from the artists, to the details, to nerdin out on my computer organizing the logistics.  AND, after all the planning it's about that time to just enjoy.

the handmade austin women show is saturday and sunday, 11am - 6pm on may 1 & 2 at ginko studios in east austin. 800 gullett street, austin, tx 78720

the 5th annual HAW spring show and sale will feature an eclectic array of work including ceramics, collage, photography, mixed media, jewelry, clothing, and for a little something extra, massage therapy. also, to appeal to your senses there will be a well rounded mix of happenings throughout the weekend including : marionette & ukelele performances, some funk & roll music by guy town, a mix from dj lovecat, treats and delights from hope & glory pastry and cornucopia.

come out and enjoy the show.
