clean-up

well, it's way past THAT time for me, clean-up time studio style!!!! for any of you who have seen my "busting at the seams, i am surprised it can still hang on the wall, crap piled everywhere jewelry bench" you know what i am talking about, and if you haven't seen it....my husband, chris doesn't lovingly call me "crap hound" for no reason. motivated by my very skilled and generous hubby who made me a brand spankin' new soldering station while i was in st. louis, i now have a "new", fresh, clean, and ORGANIZED studio to work in....yippy!!!!! drum roll please....... Ta Dah..................

thankyou.thankyou.thankyou

thank you to everyone that came out to the webster groves's art and air art festival. considering it was crazy hot that weekend and the storms/tornado alarms caused us to cancel the show on friday nite, it was really great to see you all on saturday and sunday. thanks for braving the heat and making my weekend much more enjoyable by stopping in to say hi, catch up and help pass the time. it is always an amazing and heart warming experience to do this show since i am from the st. louis area and my history is there. i know and see so many amazing people from my past. thanks for offering your support; for your time and effort, i am truly grateful. i hope you all enjoyed the show. oh, thanks to me pops for helping me set up (in the questionable weather) and teaching me how to tie those invaluable knots with the bailing twine to help weight my booth......and for seconds, thanks for being "older"....you know what i mean :O)

puffy fluffy whiteness

clouds.jpg no sooner than i sat down in my seat on the plane and buckled myself in i passed out. this is high relaxation time for because i am away from my studio and seriously can no longer make work.......this is always a big relief to know that i can just "be still" for awhile. so i promptly fell asleep before the wheels of the plane even left the ground. i am always bummed out when there is a loud speaker announcement on the plane........how many times can i really wake up from the P.A. announcement and actually fall back to sleep.....about seven times, i guess. my family has laughed at me since i was very little for being able to sleep just about anywhere. i had a straight shot flight just briefly stopping in houston to pick up a few other sky bunnies and off to st. louis we go.

the beautiful serene image of whiteness was taken out the window of the plane as i woke from my sleep. my emotion quickly went from frustration to joy. i was annoyed at the realization that my sleep would be continuously interrupted by very loud announcements "it is safe to move about the cabin", "please do not form a line at the lavatory" but when i opened my eyes and saw this amazing view my heart was quickly filled with joy when i saw the blanket of clouds.

this picture reminds me of the quilt that i would like to make with my grandmother some day. an all white quilt with white stitching.......most quilts are really amazing and beautiful with color and pattern but i would like to make a quilt where the emphasis is on all the work that is put into it, the quilting itself. on the colorful quilts the stitching gets lost.

"the ring show"

bandshowcard1.jpg here is the card for the show i was in during the SNAG conference. my new pillow "cake ring" was in this show......i mentioned it awhile back. i just received these postcards in the mail yesterday. a proposal has been submitted to see if the georgia museum of art would like to host the show. if it works out, it will be in late summer/early fall. maybe chris and i will take a road trip if we have any open time for such an adventure.

it's that time of year gopher plant

gopher.jpg drum roll please...............................................the gopher plant.

this is one of my favorite plants we have in our garden.  i am a bit of a nerd and so love this time of year.  i am bubbling over with excitement about planting time.  we just put in a bunch of veggies yesterday.

some faves....of course the tomatoes, which every year i always buy more tomato plants than we actually can fit in our garden.  one day maybe i will have an edible estate for a yard.  oh, and then,  cucumber, jalapeno, red bell pepper, sorrel, nasturtium, basil and thyme; the sorrel and the nasturtium are new finds for me.  they are both really great in salads.  we call the nasturtium pepper circles for there lovely round shape and peppery bite.  i'm still waiting on the purslane which is also an edible green.  i put them in my salad and green smoothies sometimes......it looks really beautiful in a salad with their multi colored blooms and succulent lobie leaves.

i can't wait to dive into the landscape design for the backyard.....we worked on the front yard last spring and it has exploded with babies.  so, we will be able to use a bunch of starts from the front yard in the back.  superdoo!!!

we just painted the back of our fence slate gray.  it will be a beautiful backdrop for some grasses and agave.

kombucha

kombucha.jpg out of studio interest: no i have not captured squid to keep in my kitchen. this is my kombucha. kombucha is a fermented tea that dates back to 400-500B.C. in china. it takes about 7-14 days for the first fermentation and the second fermentation occurs after it is bottled. the white/tan floating disc shapes you see in the jars is called the scoby (aka: mother, baby, zooglea), short for "symbiosis culture of bacteria & yeast". i have "grown/fermented" 2 batches already and am learning more about it as i go. to learn more or if your interested in making it yourself do your homework first by going to www.getkombucha.com and sign up for the 7 day free course. also the www.happyherbalist.com and go to "how to make kombucha" is a good informative site too. for the curious: kombucha tastes like a tart acidic barely sweet bubbly drink.....it's said to be an acquired taste. i love it like crazy!!
